The Best Electric Scooters for Riders on a Budget
Best Budget Performance Scooter
GOTRAX G3 Plus
$399
The G3 Plus channels the spirit of the popular budget GOTRAX G4, delivering respectable performance figures such as a max speed of 18.1 mph and acceleration to 15 mph in just 7.1 seconds.
The Plus muscles its way up inclines faster than the G4, and when it comes to stopping, the front regenerative braking and rear disc brake make sure you’ve got things under control.
This is one of the best electric scooters we can recommend for riders on a budget.

Segway Ninebot E2 Plus
$349
The E2 Plus e-scooter is the ideal campus sidekick due to its ultra-low maintenance 8.1-inch hollow solid tires (no flats!) and low price.
When it comes to performance, the E2 Plus pulls ahead with a 15.5 mph top speed.
This Segway scooter’s 300w motor with a 500w peak power provides enough torque for tackling campus hills.
The 220Wh battery packs enough juice for shuttling around town and handling essential first and last-mile commutes.

NIU KQi2 Pro
$599
With its spacious deck and tall handlebars, the KQi2 Pro ensures a steady, wobble-free ride that’s hard to beat.
First, there’s the smooth ride quality from the 10-inch tubeless tires that also offer excellent handling and are less susceptible to flats.
Next up is the performance, impressive for its price bracket, including a top speed of 16.3 mph, a brisk 7.6-second acceleration to 15 mph, and a speedy 20.3 seconds while climbing our 200 ft 10% gradient test.
These qualities and more make the KQi2 Pro one of the best electric scooters on the market when it comes to quality and performance on a budget.

Top: The Best Electric Scooters of 2023Most Comfortable Budget Scooter Under $600
GOTRAX G5
$599
The G5 is the first GOTRAX model with front suspension. Paired with the scooter’s 10-inch tubed tires, it gives the G5 a nicely cushioned ride, which is great given the 14.2 miles you get from the G5’s 460.8Wh battery.
The G5 is a 48 volt system, which means you don’t get reduced performance as the battery drains.
Riders will enjoy higher speeds and fast acceleration, although the scooter struggles a little on hills.
But for the price, this is the largest battery, highest motor power (500W), and smoothest ride quality we’ve seen.

GOTRAX G6
$699
For $100 more, there’s also the very similar-looking G6 which has the same 500W motor but 56% more battery life. We haven’t tested the G6 yet, but based on our tests of the G5, we estimate the G6 will have 22 miles or more of real-world range.

NIU KQi3 Max
$749
The NIU KQi3 Max electric scooter is our expert reviewer Paul’s “at-home” scooter, and that’s saying something given his range of options.
As an everyday rider, the KQi3 Max’s 22 mph top speed is especially impressive, with a 4.6-second acceleration to 15 mph.
The KQi3 Max also has the best mechanical brake calipers that act on the dual front and rear disc brakes.
Disc brakes and a rear electronic brake bring the scooter to a stop in 9.3 ft–the 6th shortest tested braking distance by ESG.

Unagi Model One Voyager
$69/mo
The Unagi Voyager is one of the lightest dual-motor scooters by a wide margin, weighing in at a mere 30.2 lbs.
With its dual 250W motors, you can expect impressive hill-climbing and rapid acceleration in a compact package.
An upgraded version of the Unagi Model One Classic E500, the Voyager comes with several enhancements. The most notable upgrade is a 360 Wh, 36V battery, with about twice the range.
It’s worth noting that Unagi has retained the 7.5-inch vented solid tires, whose performance impacts ride quality outside of well-maintained city roads.
But solid tires require no maintenance whatsoever, solidifying the Model One as the most worry-free of the best electric scooters on this list.

Top: The Best Electric Scooters of 2023Best Budget Ultraportable
Fluid Freeride Mosquito
$899
The award for best ultraportable, super lightweight electric scooter goes to the Fluid Mosquito, which currently retails for $899.
The Mosquito is an amazing value for the money as one of the all-around best electric scooters for portability and speed.
Popular for its high power-to-weight ratio, the scooter has a 500W motor with 700W of peak power and weighs under 30 lbs.
Performance-wise, you get a top speed of 27.7 mph and a 460Wh battery with 16.6 miles range. These numbers are hard to beat for the price, though solid tires don’t deliver the smoothest of rides.

Apollo Air 2023
$999
We’ve always been fans of the way Apollo integrates regenerative braking for strong but easy-to-use stopping – and we particularly love the dedicated regenerative braking lever on the Air.
The 2023 Air update gets features from the new Apollo Pro, like handlebar-end turn signals.
Other features that make the Air the most premium entry-level scooter include the motorcycle-style front fork suspension, the superior 21700 battery cells for extended battery life, 10-inch air-filled tires, the best app support on the market, and taller and wider handlebars.

Things we enjoy about the Apollo City Pro: full suspension–front and rear, 10-inch tubeless air filled, self-healing tires, and an app with so much capability, including switching between speed modes, a provision to dial in regenerative braking and acceleration intensity, and the ability to calculate remaining range.
The City Pro is also the perfect commuter for year-round riding, thanks to the IP66 rating and strong fender protection for those unexpected rainy days.
Owners of the 2022 City Pro can get the City 2023 upgrade kit available on Apollo’s website.

EMOVE Cruiser S
$1,499
The EMOVE Cruiser S packs a 1560 Wh battery with premium 18650 LG cells (for extended battery life). On our test course, the scooter gave us a whopping 43.6 miles of range.
Other features – including an ultra-roomy surfboard deck, the second longest in our database, and a quad suspension that pairs well with the Cruiser S’s 10-inch tubeless tires – make for a very comfortable ride.
The Cruiser S also has a 31.7 mph top speed, and accelerates from 0 to 30 mph in just 17 seconds. Semi-hydraulic brakes and regenerative braking let you ride fast safely, with a stopping distance of 10.1 ft from 15 mph.
And no hill is too steep for the Cruiser’s torque-y motor. In short, there’s no better long-distance companion than the EMOVE Cruiser S.

Segway Ninebot Max G2
$999
The 450-watt motor Segway Ninebot MAX G2 has great performance numbers, from the 21.7 miles per hour top speed to the quick acceleration, impeccable hill climbing (especially for a single motor scooter), and easy braking from drum and regenerative brakes.
Thanks to front hydraulic and adjustable dual rear shocks, the ride quality dramatically improves on the original Ninebot Max.
There’s traction control, which is handy when riding off-road or in wet conditions, plus the low rolling resistance of the Segway scooter’s 10-inch tires for range efficiency.
In our test, the Max G2 maxed out at 26.6 miles. The Ninebot App for the G2 is also impressive, including the Apple Find My feature – a first on an electric scooter.

Segway Ninebot F2 Pro
$749
If the G2’s $999 price and 53.4 lbs weight feel like a little much, there’s the lighter and less expensive F2 Pro.
It’s a lesser version for sure, but you still get the famous Segway Ninebot build quality. And the F2 Pro’s performance and ride quality are almost as good as the MAX G2’s.
In fact, the only major deviation is the F2 Pro’s range. With the MAX G2, you’re getting an impressive range of 26.6 miles, thanks to the larger battery and RideyLONG tech, while the F2 Pro gets just 15.7 miles, but with quite a bit of cost savings in a lighter package.

Apollo Pro 2023 — $3,999
The Apollo Pro is the most well-packaged scooter we’ve ever encountered, so much so that we call it the scooter of the future. You will fall in love with the one-piece chassis, complemented by the wrap-around deck lights and a beautiful coat of paint.
The ride feels incredible thanks to 12-inch self-healing, tubeless tires, complemented by adjustable front shocks, lighter rear shocks, and an overall stable feel, even when going over potholes or cornering.
The Apollo Pro is the first electric scooter to give you a choice between using your phone-as-display or using the scooter’s intuitive, integrated DOT display, just one of the many tech achievements that won it a Red Dot Design award.
The Pro 2023 is currently one of the best electric scooters overall, whether off-road or on, and whether you’re looking for a daily driver or the occasional thrill ride.

Kaabo Mantis V2
$1,699
The Mantis V2 has a base model price, but the performance tells a different story. The scooter has a top speed of 37.3 miles per hour, accelerating from 0 to 15 in just 2.2 seconds.
The 2000W motors with sinewave controllers are efficient, crushing our 200 ft 10% hill in just 8.1 seconds.
Braking is another area where the V2 excels. The scooter is fitted with Zoom hydraulic brakes, not common in this class. And thanks to improved front and rear suspension that keeps the scooter from diving forward, the stopping distance is even shorter, at 9.7 ft from a speed of 15 mph.

NAMI Klima
$2,199
The Klima comes in 25 ah and 30 ah versions. We tested the 30 ah model that’s fitted with energy-dense LG 21700 cells. We love everything from the exhilarating 41.6 mph top speed to the 25 miles of range we got on our test course.
Acceleration and hill-climbing are equally impressive. The Klima’s motors are controlled by efficient twin 40 A controllers, which explains the scooter’s best-in-class acceleration.
Very few scooters have an under-5-second acceleration to 30 mph, and the Klima gets there in 4.9 seconds. That efficiency carries over to the scooter’s impeccable hill climbing – 7.7 seconds to the top of our 200 ft 10% hill test.

Features that especially stand out include well-placed, intuitive controls, transparent passive matrix dash, twist grip throttle, girder front end, the 18-degree rake angle, monstrous fenders, and vehicle-grade lighting.
The performance is enough to get you around town on your daily commute and do a bit of sightseeing on weekends. You will enjoy the 41.8 miles per hour max speed, fast acceleration, NAMI-grade hill climbing ability, stop-on-a-dime brakes, and 32.9 miles of range.

Solar E-Clipse
$5,995
The E-Clipse is a ton of fun to ride since there’s no clutch and no shifting. This Solar e-bike has a premium build quality – a frame made entirely of carbon fiber.
The seat is long and narrow and can accommodate a passenger, and you and your passenger also each get riding pegs.
The ride is super comfortable thanks to large 19-inch knobby tires and front and rear adjustable KKE hydraulic suspension.
You get a ton of performance – 57.8 mph of top speed, with a super crazy 3.6-second acceleration to 30 mph. We were able to ride further than the manufacturer spec of 61.3 miles, and if you have $2200 lying around, you can get a spare battery to stretch out the max range even further.
And with the E-Clipse’s 17-digit VIN, you can go fully street legal if you want to, with registration and insurance – something you can’t do with competitors like Sur Ron.

Wolf King GTR
$3,995
Both the Kaabo Wolf King GT Pro and GTR operate on dual 2000 W motors and are powered by a 2520 wh battery. The difference is that the GTR now has a 2 in 1 controller for the motors, rated at 100 amps and stored in a waterproof case between the forks for easy access and better cooling, while the GT Pro carries dual 50 amp controllers in the same location.
Additionally, the King GTR’s battery is now removable. The suspension is slightly modified on the GTR – you have adjustable front and rear suspension to improve ride quality. The GT Pro has a 61 mph top speed, accelerating to 30 mph in just 3.8 seconds. On our hill test, it cleared the 200 ft 10% grade in 6.5 seconds.
The GTR outdoes these numbers considerably, overtaking the GT Pro as one of the fastest scooters on the market. It also comes with Traction Control and its Boost Mode supercharges the scooter for about 10 seconds.

EMOVE Roadrunner Pro
$2,395
The EMOVE RoadRunner Pro hits a max speed of 54.7 miles per hour, with multiple riding modes that are customizable to ensure you’re riding within your level of expertise.
It has quick acceleration and great hill climbing ability despite its large, 14-inch wheels. Thanks to the Zoom hydraulic brakes, the scooter has a short stopping distance of 10.4 ft from a speed of 15 mph.
The RoadRunner Pro is also a favorite thanks to the large removable battery with LG 21700 cells, whose 1800Wh of juice gave us 32.1 miles on our test course. With that much range, it’s also great that the scooter is super comfortable.
The memory foam seat is long and has fabric that stays cool in the heat, and the combination of front and rear shocks and the scooter’s big wheel stability cushion the ride even more.

EMOVE Roadster
$5,795
Long before the EMOVE Roadster arrived at our office, we’d hear rumors that Voro Motors, maker of classic scooters (both on this list) the EMOVE Cruiser and EMOVE Touring had something in the works that would blow everyone away. There was talk of carbon fiber, speeds over 70mph, and something called a “death waiver.”
Well, they delivered and then some late this year with the Roadster: a premium carbon-fiber frame beast of a scooter that weighs 143 lbs, maxes out at around 72 miles per hour, hits 30 mph in under 4 seconds, and travels over 50 miles at car speeds on a single charge.
Moreover, we’ve given the Roadster a high reliability score of 8.8, and unlike custom or bespoke electric scooters, this race-worthy machine is available now.
