GOTRAX GX Series Changes the Game for Affordable Performance Scooters
GOTRAX started as a modest operation in Texas designing budget electric scooters with limited 3-month warranties. Models like the GXL Commuter and GOTRAX G4 sold very well, and a couple years ago the company introduced upgraded commuter scooters with front suspension and much better build quality.
Over time, GOTRAX has become one of the biggest names in budget scooters and ebikes. When the company upped their warranty to 2 years on all new scooters and all major parts, that stood out to us as a sign that they had total confidence in their electric scooters and were willing to stand behind their products 100 percent.
We’ve seen the quality of GOTRAX scooters improve significantly over the years, while their prices have stayed relatively the same, even after new tariffs went into effect; but even we weren’t prepared for GOTRAX’s foray into dual motor performance scooters with their GX line.
Meet the GX Series
GOTRAX’s GX scooters have changed the game for affordable dual motor electric scooters, with specs you’d only find on much more expensive models, and reliability and performance that’s very hard to beat.
They won’t replace GOTRAX’s budget scooters – you can still buy a reliable electric scooter from GOTRAX for under $500. But now, the company’s ready to cater to riders who want to spend a little more, and get a lot more for the money.
First, the GX1 and GX2 appeared, dual motor scooters with 1,200W and 1,600W of power, respectively, and large batteries for 20+ miles of range. Both scooters hit speeds of 30+ mph, and we found them still going strong six months later in our long-term review, and gave them high reliability scores of 8.5 in our database.
GOTRAX’s GX scooters may lack some amenities – like an app for fine-tuning settings on your phone – but you won’t find dual hydraulic suspension on other dual motor scooters for the price. When it comes to ride quality, both the GX1 and GX2 feel fantastic on the road, and they don’t do too badly off-road either.
If you want serious off-road riding, however, the 2,000W GOTRAX GX3 will more than fit the bill. We reviewed this dual motor beast with an eye toward how it performs next to other light-heavyweight dual motor sport scooters like the Apollo Phantom and Kaabo Mantis V2, and the GX3 definitely belongs in their company.
The 1,000W GOTRAX GX Zero rounds out the line as the lightest of the four scooters. The GX line is a bit like the BMW M2 – M5 series, with something for everyone. GOTRAX gives riders the option of getting into dual motor scooters at an unheard-of price with the GX Zero – which might be the best dual motor scooter you can purchase for less than $1K.
Off the Shelf to On the Road
Also known as the Ares at stores like Best Buy, you can grab the GX Zero right off the shelf in many cases. One of the coolest things about GOTRAX is their wide availability. No waiting for shipping from a warehouse on the other side of the country. In many cases, you can get your scooter curbside right after purchase, and GOTRAX scooters are widely available in Canada.
The GX series also differs from other scooters in that it’s backed by a full two-year warranty on all major parts, while many companies only offer 1 year or as little as 6 months on batteries, motors, controllers, and other high value parts. Even Canadian buyers get the full 2-year warranty. And if you can’t find one on the shelf at Best Buy, the company offers free shipping on domestic orders.
Let’s take a look at what each of the GX series scooters does best.

GOTRAX GX Zero | Best Stopping Power for the Money

The GX Zero has some impressive specs in our database. It’s got a top speed of 28.3 miles per hour, for example: 3 mph faster – and $250 cheaper – than the Apollo Go. It also has a removable battery for convenient charging and added security and (non-adjustable) hydraulic shocks, which we’ve never seen for under $1,000.
One of the things that most stood out to us, however, was the stopping power of this scooter’s mechanical disc brake setup. We were blown away by the GX Zero’s braking distance of 9.4 feet from 15 mph, one of the shortest distances in our history of testing, and shorter by far than any other scooter in its price class.
To get close to braking distances like these on a non-GOTRAX scooter, you would need to spend at least $1,000 more on a performance scooter like the Apollo Phantom V4, which comes to a complete stop from 15 mph in 9.5 seconds but costs $2,199.
While the GX Zero lacks regenerative brakes, as do the GX1 and GX2, it doesn’t need them. The GX2 might have the shorter stopping distance by 1/10th of a foot, but the GX Zero is $500 less than the GX2, making it a clear winner in best braking performance value overall.

GOTRAX GX1 | Best Acceleration for the Price
Use our code ESG50 for max discount
Don’t get us wrong, the GOTRAX GX scooters are all fast, but when it comes to acceleration, the differences between them show a huge leap in performance between the GX Zero and GOTRAX GX1. While the Zero competes with single-motor 1,000W scooters like the Segway Max G2, the GX1 speeds off into the sunset at 2.7 seconds to 15 mph.
Not only does the GX1 spin up faster to 15 than the GX2, but it’s basically as fast off the line as the GX3 (2.6s) and other scooters in its price class like the Apollo Phantom V3 (2.7s) and Inokim OXO Super 2023 (2.7s). That’s pretty impressive for an electric scooter that costs less than $1,300, and that’s not to mention the 30.6 mph top speed or 19 miles of range.

Use our code ESG25 for max discount
The GOTRAX GX1 is less than one second quicker than the GOTRAX GX2. But if you want the higher top speed for less, then the GX2 is your best bet. Added wattage and a much larger battery pushed this scooter past its manufacturer specs in our testing, with an ESG-rated max speed of 35.6 mph.
It’s not as fast as the GX3, but the GOTRAX GX2 is faster than some other dual motor electric scooters that cost a few hundred dollars more, including the dual motor Apollo City 2024 (31.2 mph) and the OKAI Panther (35.1 mph). Its larger battery also gives it a tested 24.7 miles of range, and it’s only two pounds heavier than the GX1.

Top: GOTRAX GX Series Changes the Game for Affordable Performance ScootersGOTRAX GX3 | Best Value for Long-Range/Off-Road Riding
Use code ESG100 for max discount
The GOTRAX GX3 is the company’s flagship electric scooter, and it’s an impressive piece of engineering. Stepping up to the GX3 from other models gets you hydraulic disc brakes, an ESG-tested top speed of 37.9 mph, and a 1210Wh battery for a tested range of 28.8 miles.
Bear in mind that our range tests are tough – we tend to ride in max performance mode and hit plenty of hills, so GOTRAX’s range estimate of 60 miles on a single charge could theoretically be closer to achievable with more leisurely, conservative riding.
You also get a fully-adjustable hydraulic suspension system (preload + rebound), a rider weight limit of 300 pounds – vs the other scooters’ 265 lb limit – and 11” knobby tires. It’s the perfect recipe for a gnarly off-road scooter, and the GOTRAX GX3 is just as good at hitting the trails as it is on the pavement. Unlike the other GX scooters, this one isn’t for beginners, but it’s got everything the intermediate–experienced rider could want for under $2,000.

Summing Up
The upshot: the GOTRAX GX series is one of the best value propositions in dual motor performance electric scooters on the market, with prices most buyers can afford, for braking power, acceleration, speed, range, and ride quality they won’t find for the money anywhere else.
Add to that the peace of mind of a full 2-year warranty and the option to pick your scooter up right off the shelf at Best Buy, and GOTRAX comes out looking like one of the best manufacturers of performance scooters all around.
If you can only spend a few hundred bucks, GOTRAX is still one of the best options for budget electric scooters. And when you can afford to spend a little more, check out the GX series for some truly revolutionary performance, quality and reliability.
