Hooga Daytona Electric Scooter Review: 70-MPH Hyper Scooter With Real DOT Brakes

Do you need to go 70 mph on an electric scooter? No.
Do you want to — and can you? With the Hooga Daytona, absolutely.

I’ve tested 200+ electric scooters over six years, and this is one of the wildest, most complete hyper scooters I’ve ridden. Dual 5000W motors. A 72V LG battery. Actual DOT-grade hydraulic brakes. It’s a road-devouring monster that still feels planted and predictable.

Quick Specs (tested)

  • Motors: Dual 5,000W
  • Battery: 72V, 48Ah LG (dual charge ports; ~12 hr full charge)
  • Brakes: 4-piston DOT-grade hydraulics, 160 mm rotors
  • Tires: 13 in
  • Water Resistance: IPX5
  • Weight: ~171 lb
  • Price: $3,695 (via Voro Motors)
  • Rider for tests: 235 lb

Performance: Not just “fast,” usefully fast

  • Top speed (real-world run): 63.5 mph average in limited runway; on a longer, clear stretch I’m confident it can crest 70+ mph.
  • Acceleration: Among the fastest 72V scooters I’ve tested in 0–30, 0–40, and 0–50 mph. Lighter riders will go even quicker.
  • Hill climb: New king on our 10% grade — 5.71 seconds, edging out other flagship hypers.

Range & ride

  • Official ESG-style range (my ride): 36.32 miles at 235 lb with aggressive mixed riding.
  • Expected for <200 lb riders: ~40–43 miles.
  • Ride quality: Excellent. Adjustable suspension (≈80 mm front / 70 mm rear) + 13-inch rubber means potholes, manholes, and light off-road aren’t scary. It’s remarkably stable at speed — use the included steering damper and keep it snug.

Dimensions & cockpit notes

  • Handlebar width: ~31.5 in
  • Stem-to-deck: ~44 in (tall-rider friendly)
  • Deck: 10 in wide; ~21 in usable (≈27 in with footrest)
  • Throttle: Reverse trigger. I’d prefer a thumb throttle for brake coverage, but the dual sine-wave controllers make modulation smooth and predictable.
  • Lighting & UI: Bright display, turn signals, loud horn (~91 dB measured), customizable ambient lights, cruise control (I keep it off on hypers). Deep settings menu — don’t toss the user guide (you’ll need the access code).

Practical trade-offs

  • Portability: Forget it. At ~171 lb and with the steering damper installed, you’ll basically store it upright. You canremove the damper (two bolts) to fold for a truck bed, but it’s not a “daily fold.”
  • Charging: Single charger is slow (~12 hrs). Consider a second charger to halve that.
  • Certification: DOT-grade brakes + IPX5. (No UL listing noted.)
  • Warranty: 12 months; parts via Voro Motors.

Who should buy the Hooga Daytona?

Experienced riders stepping up from Dualtron, Wolf, or similar who want:

  • 70+ mph potential with real high-speed stability
  • Brutal acceleration and hill-climb dominance
  • DOT-grade braking and real suspension travel
  • Hyper-scooter performance that undercuts pricier flagships

Verdict

If you’re hunting for a sub-$4K hyper that actually feels composed at scary speeds, the Hooga Daytona is it. It’s one of the best bang-for-buck hypers of 2025: blistering acceleration, credible 70-mph potential, real vehicle-grade brakes, and a ride that doesn’t beat you up.

Bottom line: Not portable, not beginner-friendly — but for seasoned riders, the Hooga Daytona absolutely rips.

FAQ (add as on-page accordion)

Is the Hooga Daytona actually 70+ mph?
In my testing I averaged 63.5 mph with limited runway. On a longer straight, the Daytona has the power to hit 70+ mph.

What range can I expect?
I logged 36.32 miles at 235 lb riding hard. Sub-200 lb riders should see ~40–43 miles mixed use.

Is it portable?
No. At ~171 lb and with a steering damper, it’s a garage queen, not a train-carry commuter.

Does it have real motorcycle-grade brakes?
Yes — DOT-grade 4-piston hydraulics with 160 mm rotors. That’s rare (and welcome) in this class.

How long to charge?
About 12 hours with one charger; use dual chargers to speed it up.
