VMAX VX2 Pro – Our Long-Term Review
When the VMAX VX2 Pro launched, it soon became one of our favorite scooters under $1000. In this review, I tell you how it holds up after 5 months of regular use (including a crash!), and how it stacks up to competitors in its price class.
VMAX VX2 Pro GT – $899
When the VMAX VX2 Pro first launched, it quickly became one of our favorite electric scooters under $1,000. Paul did the original review for this scooter, but for the past five months, I’ve been riding it to evaluate its long-term potential.
In this review, I’ll tell you how the VX2 Pro has held up over the past four or five months with regular use – even after a crash – and I’ll tell you how it stacks up against some other sub-$1,000 scooters I really like.
Who Is This Scooter For?
The VMAX VX2 Pro has a maximum payload of 287 pounds, so even heavier riders should feel comfortable on it. It’s IPX6 water-resistant, has a front drum brake and rear regenerative braking and doesn’t have suspension but you get 10-inch tubeless tires to cushion bumps in the road.
The VX2 Pro remains a great commuter electric scooter with speed, hill climbing ability, acceleration, and range that beats the competition at this price. While the ride quality isn’t as plush as a scooter with front and rear suspension, the trade-off is less maintenance, lighter weight for portability.

Top: VMAX VX2 Pro – Our Long-Term ReviewVMAX VX2 Pro: Performance
Speed, Acceleration & Hill Climb
For a single motor scooter, the VMAX VX2 outputs an insane amount of power. It gets up to 15 miles an hour so fast. And it also a very high top speed relative to its price on top of that, a little over 24 miles per hour. VMAX is the only brand, in fact, that consistently goes faster than the manufacturer spec in our top speed runs.
I retested the acceleration time of the VX2 Pro because I couldn’t believe how fast it is. I’m about 200 pounds, for reference, so you’ll be able to accelerate more quickly than me if you’re lighter, and it might be a little bit slower if you’re heavier. I ended up hitting 15 mph in 3.6 seconds. With a 200 pound rider, that is very quick.
Top: VMAX VX2 Pro – Our Long-Term ReviewRide Quality
The ride quality of the VMAX VX2 Pro is great for an electric scooter without suspension, thanks to its tubeless tires and immaculate build quality. But you do have several options in the under-$1000 category. You can get a Segway Ninebot Max G2 for around same price as the VX2 Pro, for example, or you can get NIU’s new KQi 300X.
The Max G2 has dual suspension and the KQi 300X has suspension in the front. If the roads you ride on are especially bumpy, you might want to consider one of these options, and I would definitely recommend them both for different reasons.
However, I still think the VX2 Pro is still the quicker scooter. I like the thumb throttle on the VMAX, whereas the KQi 300 series has a twist throttle. And for a scooter with lighter weight and fewer potential complications, I would choose the VX2 Pro.
The longer you use a scooter like this, the more you can appreciate the little things. I have a truck, but it’s nice when I can just stick a scooter in the back seat instead of having to strap it down in the bed. This is one of those electric scooters that perfectly rides the line between portability, speed and fun.
Top: VMAX VX2 Pro – Our Long-Term ReviewVMAX VX2 Pro: Design, Build & Reliability
To me, the main appeal of the VMAX VX2 Pro is how solidly it’s built. There are scooters that have suspension at the same price, but you’re trading moving parts and increased maintenance for a more reliable, portable, stable build in the long-term, and I think that’s where this scooter shines.
If you’re the type of person who uses your scooter daily and who may not have the time or willpower for regular maintenance, this is an excellent choice and drum brakes really add to this. While you do lose a little bit of stopping power, it can be worth the trade-off for pretty much never having to adjust your brakes or replace brake pads.
VMAX VX2 Pro: Is It Worth It Long-Term? Our Verdict
As I mentioned, I did get in a little bit of a crash with this scooter. It was my fault. I wasn’t prepared for a bump, and I fully wiped out. I literally picked it up, dusted it off, and it has had no issues. So there’s another check for the reliability of VX2 Pro.
Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with the VMAX VX2 Pro as your daily ride, if you want something that’s going to last and that’s fast, fun to ride, and has long range and great warranty coverage.
