The Apollo Phantom 2.0 Is Not for Everyone….

phantom 2.0 3

Canadian electric scooter maker Apollo has appealed to the commuter rider for years with scooters like the Air and City. The new Apollo Go continues this trend, giving riders a rock-solid dual-motor scooter with all the high tech of the flagship Apollo Pro at around 1/3rd the price.

None of that’s to say, however, that Apollo is a newcomer to the sports scooter market – on the contrary, they helped pioneer the performance scooter with their first original design, the Phantom, now in its fourth version and fully updated for 2024, and soon to be revealed in a new tech-forward Phantom 2.0 in 2025.

In the last couple years, Apollo has turned toward inventing some of the most cutting-edge scooter technology, such as their phone-as-display option, futuristic 360-degree lighting scheme, Mach 3 controller, and some of the best variable regenerative braking we’ve ever seen.

The Apollo Pro brought together all of the company’s tech in 2023 and and 2024. Next year, we’ll see a new standard-bearer: the Apollo Phantom 2.0 is gonna be a game changer for scooter design and performance, the company promises.

The New Apollo Phantom 2.0 Is Not for Everyone!

The Phantom 2.0 is not for everyone! – Apollo’s CEO warns in his introduction above. This is not a scooter for casual riders.

“Not for everyone” is a disclaimer we typically include in reviews of electric scooters that go faster than 60 miles per hour. Super-fast scooters are cool, but honestly we’ve found that riding at highway speeds on a scooter is incredibly dangerous and not that much fun for any length of time. Apollo agrees.

Most riders, even expert riders, rarely hit speeds over 40 mph on typical rides. In fact, Apollo’s extensive data shows that most pro riders only go about 17 miles an hour, on average, while Phantom riders average speeds of 15 miles per hour.

The Phantom 2.0 promises top speeds of 44 and 53 mph in its two builds. So, what makes it so intimidating? In a word: Acceleration. In two words: Massive Acceleration. Or that’s what Apollo claims for the 2025 Phantom 2.0 – off-the-line times that can send scooter noobs flying right off the handlebars.

Insane Acceleration

What kinds of speeds are we talking about? The 52V base model Phantom has a combined peak output of 3,500W, and the 60V Stellar edition boasts a peak power output of 6,700W. As you’ll see in the keynote, both scooters have been fully designed in-house, with all original Apollo-made parts, not off-the shelf batteries, motors, and controllers.

The level of integration here means maximum efficiency, Apollo claims, which will translate to a 0-30 mph time of 6 seconds for the Apollo Phantom 2.0 base model and “as little as” 4 seconds for the Stellar version.

These aren’t unheard-of acceleration times, but they’re fast… very fast, and acceleration is what matters most on the road, when you’re riding in traffic, changing lanes to make a turn, avoiding obstacles and getting out of the way of other vehicles.
