Segway GT3 Pro Review: The 72V Beast Scooter Put to the Test

The Segway GT3 Pro is one of the most anticipated hyper scooters of the year—and for good reason. Segway claims a 50 mph top speed and 86-mile range, making it their fastest and most feature-packed scooter to date. But as anyone who’s followed my testing knows, specs only tell part of the story. After reviewing and personally testing over 200+ electric scooters, I’ve learned that the real test comes from the road, not the spec sheet.

This review breaks down everything you need to know about the Segway GT3 Pro—from unboxing and build quality to acceleration, braking, suspension, and real-world range. If you’re wondering whether this scooter is worth the nearly $2,700 price tag, read on.

Unboxing and Setup

The GT3 Pro comes neatly packaged with an air pump extension and a 4-amp charger. Assembly is refreshingly simple—just secure the handlebars to the stem with a few screws, and you’re ready to ride. It’s a one-person job and takes only a few minutes.

Weight and Dimensions

  • Advertised weight: 117 lbs
  • Tested weight: ~118 lbs (accurate to spec)
  • Deck size: 18 inches flat, up to 33 inches with angled portions
  • Handlebar width: 25.5 inches
  • Handlebar height: 42.5 inches

For a scooter in the hyper category, the GT3 Pro is hefty but manageable. The geometry feels comfortable and natural—tall enough for control without feeling oversized.

Tires and Brakes

Segway designed special 11 x 3 inch slick tires with a silica compound for better grip, heat management, and reduced rolling resistance. On the road, they deliver a surprisingly stable and grippy ride that feels secure at higher speeds.

Braking is equally impressive. The GT3 Pro comes with hydraulic disc brakes (140mm rotors, dual-piston calipers)and an optional electronic ABS system. In testing, the scooter stopped in just 5 feet from 15 mph, which is exceptional. Riders can also disable the regen brake and motor cut-off if they want more advanced control.

Suspension and Ride Quality

This scooter is tuned for speed and stability. The hydraulic linkage front suspension paired with adjustable rear shocks makes for a smooth and planted ride on pavement. The setup is perfect for cornering and high-speed stability, though it’s not designed for heavy off-road use. Bottoming out on curbs is easy, so stick to streets and smooth paths for the best experience.

Motor Power and Top Speed

With dual 1700W motors (3500W peak each), the GT3 Pro delivers a combined 7,000W of peak power. Acceleration is strong and linear across all speeds:

  • 0–30 mph: 3.9–4.2 seconds
  • 0–40 mph: 6.2–6.9 seconds

Top speed testing revealed that while Segway lists 50 mph, the scooter seems software-locked. GPS showed a max of 48 mph, while the controller reported 50. Regardless, the ride is smooth and confidence-inspiring at speed.

Range Test

Segway advertises 86 miles of range, but as always, real-world numbers differ. With a 190 lb rider:

  • First 25% of battery: 7 miles
  • 50% battery: 15 miles total
  • Full ride until cutoff: ~45 miles

While it doesn’t quite hit the claimed 86 miles, 45 real-world miles at high performance settings is still very respectable for a 72V scooter.

Battery and Charging

The 30Ah (2,160Wh) battery is UL2272 certified for safety. A standout feature is the charging management system in the Segway app, which lets you:

  • Set charging limits (e.g., 80% to extend battery life)
  • Schedule charging times
  • Monitor battery health

This kind of control is rare and incredibly valuable for long-term ownership.

Cockpit and Features

The cockpit is one of the cleanest I’ve seen:

  • TFT display visible in direct sunlight
  • Riding modes: Walk, Sport, Race, S+ Boost
  • App integration for traction control, lighting, regen, and more
  • Security features: abnormal movement alarm, Apple Find My integration, Bluetooth airlock proximity unlock, and custom lever/button unlock combos

Lighting is also strong, with a low beam at 728 lux and high beam peaking at ~2800 lux, making it safer for night rides.

Who Should Buy the Segway GT3 Pro?

The GT3 Pro is built for riders who want a powerful 72V hyper scooter but also value polish, safety, and advanced features. It’s not a stripped-down race scooter—it’s a refined, high-performance machine that balances raw speed with quality of life details.

At $2,699, it sits in the premium category, but its build quality and features justify the price. If you want one of the most polished electric scooters on the market today, the Segway GT3 Pro should be at the top of your list.

Final Verdict

After testing hundreds of scooters, I can confidently say the Segway GT3 Pro is Segway’s best performance scooter yet. It may not be the absolute fastest in its class, but no other scooter blends performance, technology, and refinement quite like this one.

If you’re looking for a scooter that can hit nearly 50 mph, ride smoothly at speed, and give you advanced features you’ll actually use every day—the Segway GT3 Pro is the real deal.
