JackRabbit XG Pro Review: Ultimate Portability and Stability Combined

After personally testing more than 180 personal electric vehicles (PEVs) over the last few years, there are a few models that stand out—not because they’re the biggest or the fastest, but because they deliver something even harder to find: pure fun and real-world usability. The JackRabbit XG Pro is one of those rare standouts.

This latest and most powerful model in the JackRabbit lineup doesn’t fit neatly into any one category. It’s not exactly a bike. It’s not quite a scooter. It’s somewhere in between—and that’s a good thing. Because it offers the best of both worlds: comfortable seated riding with nimble handling, all in a form factor that folds flat and weighs just 37 pounds.

First Impressions: Compact, Lightweight, and Way More Fun Than Expected

Right out of the box, the JackRabbit XG Pro makes an impression. It’s extremely lightweight for a sit-down electric vehicle, and the 20-inch tires give it a much more confident road feel than you’d expect from something so compact. It folds flat in seconds, making it one of the most portable EVs on the market today—perfect for city dwellers, commuters, students, and travelers.

Assembly is simple, requiring only the handlebars to be attached. Once you power it on and click into high mode, you quickly realize this isn’t a toy—it’s a real commuter-capable machine.

With more than 180 PEV’s under our belt we know a thing or two about range, portability, build quality, and value. So we know you should check this e-bike out.

Performance: Fast Enough to Keep Up, Light Enough to Go Anywhere

Powered by a 749-watt rear hub motor, the XG Pro comfortably hits a top speed of 24.8 mph with off-road mode unlocked. In official testing, it went from 0 to 15 mph in 5.8 seconds, which is impressive for a PEV this small and light. It won’t out-drag a dual-motor scooter, but it offers plenty of speed for urban riding, errand-running, or just having fun zipping around.

What really surprised us, though, was its climbing ability. On our standard 200-foot, 10% grade hill climb test, it clocked in at 12.18 seconds. But we also took it on a 20% incline just to push its limits—and it made it to the top without cutting out. That’s not something we can say about most sub-40 lb vehicles.

Braking: Strong, Reliable, and Confidence-Boosting

Speed is only half the story. The JackRabbit XG Pro also delivers excellent braking, thanks to dual mechanical disc brakes with a 180mm front rotor and 160mm rear. In our braking test from 15 to 0 mph, it stopped in 1.89 seconds, which is among the best we’ve seen in the ultra-portable class.

This added stopping power, especially up front, gives you the confidence to ride fast without feeling like you’re flirting with disaster every time you need to slow down.

Range and Battery Performance: Dual Power for Real-World Riding

Equipped with two 360Wh RangeBuster batteries, the XG Pro gave us a tested range of 26.97 miles—with aggressive riding and full-throttle use. What impressed us even more was the efficiency: during the first hour of riding, the battery gauge didn’t drop a single bar, even while maintaining top speed. That’s a sign of smart power delivery and high-efficiency motor tuning.

The batteries are hot-swappable, meaning you can replace one on the fly without powering down. They’re also small enough to toss in a backpack and—if you switch to JackRabbit’s air travel-compliant version—you can even take them on planes.

Comfort and Ride Quality: Great Tires, But the Seat Needs Work

One of the best features of the XG Pro is its 20-inch tires, which soak up bumps and uneven pavement better than most scooters in this weight class. Unexpected potholes and sidewalk lips aren’t a problem. The ride feels smooth, stable, and composed at speed.

That said, there’s one clear downside: the seat isn’t very comfortable for long rides. After about 30 miles of testing, we felt it. The good news? JackRabbit sells an optional suspension seat post and more padded saddle that can make a big difference.

Customization and Features: Mod-Friendly and Ready for Upgrades

The XG Pro isn’t just rideable—it’s modifiable. JackRabbit’s website offers a growing list of accessories, including baskets, upgraded seats, and lighting kits. You won’t get a headlight or brake light by default (though mounts are provided), but if you’re doing night riding, it’s easy to add them on.

The handlebar controls are simple and intuitive. On the right, you’ve got a thumb throttle, which is sensitive and torquey in high mode. Mode selection is done via a single button: ecomid, and high. Only in high mode does the XG Pro operate with zero-start throttle (no need to kick off).

Compared to Other JackRabbit Models: A True Step Up

If you’ve used previous JackRabbit models, this one’s a big leap forward:

  • OG: 300W motor, limited range
  • OG2: 500W motor, same frame and tires
  • XG: 500W motor, better bars and tire setup
  • XG Pro: 749W motor, dual batteries, better brakes, improved rideability

Yes, it’s heavier than earlier models—but at just 37 lbs, it’s still one of the lightest seated electric rides we’ve tested.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Lightweight and ultra-portable (fits in cars, closets, and even some plane cabins)
  • Impressive speed and acceleration for its size
  • Great real-world range with dual hot-swappable batteries
  • 20-inch tires smooth out urban bumps and cracks

Final Verdict: Is the JackRabbit XG Pro Worth It?

If you’re already part of the JackRabbit community, upgrading to the XG Pro is a no-brainer. It’s faster, safer, and more capable than any model before it. But even if you’re completely new to the space and looking for a fun, compact, and easy-to-use electric ride, the XG Pro is a compelling choice.

We’ve tested over 180 PEVs, and while many have higher specs on paper, few deliver the combination of ride-anywhere portabilitysolid real-world performance, and pure ride joy like this one. Whether you’re using it to commute, explore your city, run errands, or just have fun, the JackRabbit XG Pro is a reliable, exciting ride you’ll actually use.
