The RoadRunner RS5 MAX has been one of our favorite electric scooters in the $2,500 price range range – like everything else RoadRunner builds, the RS5 MAX just gives you more for your money: more speed & range, and better build quality for riding over rough terrain.

I took the RS5 MAX to one of my favorite places on earth, Fish Lake, Utah. It’s a stunning location, with a lake and lots of mountain trails surrounded by aspen groves. This is one of my personal favorite places to ride, so I thought I’d show it to you while I rip around on the RS5 MAX and report on this scooter’s off-road capabilities.

Performance Testing the RS5 Max Off-Road

RoadRunner RS5 MAX Performance

The RS5 MAX has an ESG-tested top speed of 39.5 mph and its dual motors have a combined output of 2,800 Watts. These specs, plus all-hydraulic dual suspension and knobby, off-road tires make it a great climber and, more generally, a great scooter for heavier riders, with a weight limit of 330 pounds.

I’ve been riding this scooter for a long time, and it’s become a staple of mine. One thing I do know is that the speedometer tends to read much faster than actual speed and you may need to calibrate the tire diameter in the P-settings for more accuracy. I have not done that with my scooter.

Here’s what I love about the RS5 MAX: The suspension is really great; it has one of my favorite styles of throttle and a large center display; there’s a removable battery. This is the kind of scooter you can buy and you won’t ride around thinking about getting something better some day.

The RS5 MAX is really everything you need in a performance scooter, in my opinion, and shows that you don’t need to spend upwards of $3,000 for high speeds and all-terrain capabilities.

RoadRunner RS5 MAX Suspension and Stability

I also love how stable this scooter is. I’ve ridden quite a few scooters on these roads, and this kind of riding brings out the best, or the worst, in a scooter: you find out if it’s wobbly or has stem flex or doesn’t have great suspension. This is, by far, one of the most stable electric scooters I’ve ridden on this terrain.

The suspension on the RoadRunner RS5 MAX is not adjustable, so you just have to live with its factory dialed-in preload and rebound. For me, as a 205-pound rider, it really seems well-suited to pretty much every situation I’m riding in, if that’s a good guide for you.

It’s been a year and a half since RoadRunner released this scooter, and it’s still a fantastic ride and one of the best off-road electric scooters you can find for the money. In fact, I would call the RS5 MAX just one of the best all-around performance scooters on the market for around $2,500.

Is the RoadRunner RS5 Good for Heavier Riders?

I’m 6’1″ and 205 pounds, and the RoadRunner RS5 feels perfectly tuned for every kind of riding I do, both street and trail. It’s got hydraulic suspension, high deck clearance, and lots of deck space for your feet.
